Distance education from IQ gives
anyone the opportunity to attain affordable, career-oriented education and training in a broad range of subjects.

The number of students choosing distance
education is growing every year, which has
made distance education a well-respected
form of higher and further learning.
A Learnership is a route for learning and gaining a qualification within
the National Qualification Framework (NQF) from level 1-8.

Learnerships include both structured
experience in a workplace and
instructional learning generally with
a training provider.

In addition, a learnership:

  •  Is planned and appropriate
     combinations of learning
     outcomes with a defined purpose.
  •  Provides qualifying learners with
     applied competence and a basis
     for further learning.
  •  Is made up of generally three
     components ie. Fundamental,
     core, and elective unit standards.
  •  Has specified exit level outcomes.

The Seta must administer and register
the learnership agreement contracted
between the learner, employer and
training provider.

The learner will need to enter into a learnership agreement with the employer and the training provider.

IQ has skills programmes to address
the various needs of an organization.

A skills programme is:

  •  Unit standard based
  •  A short programme based on one or
a group/ cluster of unit standards
  •  Credit bearing from 1 to 119
  •  Leads to a qualification

At the end of the skills programme:

  •  You will be assessed. The method of
assessment will be agreed which could
include a portfolio of evidence, a test,
a practical assessment, interview or a
     combination of methods.
  •  You will be awarded a certificate of
     competency from IQ.
  •  The relevant Seta will award you with
a result sheet after all your details
have been verified by the Seta and
     uploaded on SAQA learner record
     database.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Learners can achieve in part or full credits
for the skills programme based on the
recognition of prior learning, ie. your
experience that you have gained on the job.
